Football Recap: Cypress Centurions vs. Capistrano Valley Cougars

Cypress was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Capistrano Valley Cougars, falling 50-22. The Centurions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2022.

Cypress' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Busbee, who picked up 85 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 53 yards. Busbee got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 65 yards. Xavier Guerrero was another key passer, throwing for 184 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes.

Tommy Acosta continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Capistrano Valley, throwing for 179 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also rushing for 48 yards and a touchdown. Acosta is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Kaden Hunter was in the mix as well, providing Capistrano Valley with three touchdowns.

Cypress' defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Capistrano Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Cypress wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 28-22 loss against Western on the 17th. Capistrano Valley has also already played their next match, a 49-41 victory against Trabuco Hills on the 18th.
