Baseball Game Preview: Poly Prep Country Day Blue Devils vs. Stony Brook Bears

Poly Prep Country Day is on a 14-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Stony Brook is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Poly Prep Country Day got a great performance from David Hinojosa as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Hinojosa has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mateo Noto was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Owen Ten Oever was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Stony Brook is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Hill School. The Bears put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 18-5 victory. Considering the Bears have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Stony Brook has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Poly Prep Country Day, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
