Basketball Recap: Monacan's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Monacan unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the L.C. Bird Skyhawks, falling 93-68. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (58), the Chiefs still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Monacan lost, don't look at Amare Cooper. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 19 en route to 19 points. The matchup was Cooper's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Bunn, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

Monacan's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2. As for L.C. Bird, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Monacan and L.C. Bird should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. Monacan (ranked 27th) will meet Powhatan (ranked 101st) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Monacan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.4 points per game this season. Similarly, L.C. Bird will challenge Cosby at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 137 places (37 vs. 174).
