1. Dowling (West Des Moines)
2013-14 record: Bob Hanson
Head coach: 23-2

Dowling won it all last season in 5A and two double-digit scorers from last season are returning. That should give the Maroons enough firepower to get back to the title game. Senior Audrey Faber returns after averaging 15.7 points per game and Rebecca Hittner is a junior who tallied 13.4 points per game last season as well.

2. Southeast Polk (Pleasant Hill)
2013-14 record: 16-7
Head coach: Tracy Dailey

Nobody in Class 5A returns more of their personnel than the Rams, who bring back 73 percent of their scoring from last year's runner-up team. Only two seniors graduated for Southeast Polk.

3. Valley (West Des Moines)

4. Harlan
2013-14 record: 27-0
Head coach: Zach Klaassen

The Cyclones bring back size galore, led by volleyball/basketball star Jess Schaben. Harlan fought through three straight tight games at state to capture the 4A crown, and had reached the state tournament the year before as well.

5. Waukee
2013-14 record: 19-6

Waukee is yet another power from suburban Des Moines. Junior Reilly Jacobson and sophomore Carlie Littlefield are returning double-figure scorers.
