Softball Recap: Derby Comes Up Short

Ansonia hit Derby with a 11-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Raiders came up short against the Chargers, falling 17-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-4 back in April.

Ari McNeill made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Skylar Anderson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Derby and nudges their season record down to 2-14. As for Ansonia, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Coming up, Derby will square off against St. Paul Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Red Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ansonia, they have already played their next matchup, a 10-2 defeat against Wolcott on the 13th.
