Athens is a perfect 9-0 against Cowanesque Valley since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cowanesque Valley will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Athens extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Wildcats blew past Mansfield 19-7. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kamdyn Wheeler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Duncan Thetga was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Brady Flynn was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Athens always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cowanesque Valley was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against Sayre as they made off with a 16-2 victory. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Redskins recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Dave Hess and Ayren Morgan made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Hess pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Morgan pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Hess went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Morgan went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Cowanesque Valley got a massive performance out of Lucas Hamilton, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Hamilton has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Churchill, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Cowanesque Valley's victory bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Athens, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Athens has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cowanesque Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Athens got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Cowanesque Valley by a conclusive 12-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
