Basketball Recap: Pine Forest Comes Up Short

If Pine Forest was feeling good fresh off their 47-20 takedown of Harnett Central last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pine Forest Trojans took a 55-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Overhills Jaguars. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now lost eight in a row.

Despite the loss, Pine Forest still got an impressive performance from Tahlia Glover, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 17 points. The dominant performance also gave Glover a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Jaliyah Carter, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Pine Forest was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Overhills only racked up seven assists.

Leading Overhills to victory were Paris Autry and Najiha Allen. Autry went 8-for-13 on her way to 24 points, while Allen went 7-for-14 en route to 20 points along with six boards and five steals. The contest was Allen's third in a row with at least 20 points. Unique Cooke was another key player, putting up four points in addition to 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Pine Forest's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Overhills, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Pine Forest has already played their next matchup, a 44-31 loss against Richmond on the 12th. As for Overhills, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-39 win against E.E. Smith on the 13th.
