The Mt. Abraham Eagles will square off against the Vergennes Commodores at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mt. Abraham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Mt. Abraham made easy work of Middlebury and carried off an 11-5 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Stefan Johnson made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Johnson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Brody Barnard and Clark Crary did most of the damage at the plate: Barnard got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Crary got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. Barnard continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cam Castillo, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Vergennes' offense. They came up short against Missisquoi Valley on Thursday, falling 10-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mt. Abraham's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Vergennes, they dropped their record down to 0-1 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
