Volleyball Preview: Palatine Pirates vs. Lakes Eagles
The Palatine Pirates will face off against the Lakes Eagles at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Palatine will be strutting in after a win while Lakes will be coming in after a loss.
On Tuesday, Palatine beat Rolling Meadows 2-0.
Palatine never let Rolling Meadows on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-17.
Meanwhile, Lakes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Zion-Benton. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Zee-Bees 25-21 in the first set.
Lakes started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The final score came out to 21-25, 29-27, 25-20.
Palatine will have to contain Luke Rytina as he made an impact in Lakes' last game. He had 22 digs and two aces. Benjamin Newcomb also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.
The victory got Palatine back to even at 17-17. As for Lakes, their loss dropped their record down to 14-20.
