Softball Recap: Northome/Kelliher Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Northome/Kelliher lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Pine River-Backus, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's matchup. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 20-5 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kate Thayer was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Kylee Binkley, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.

Northome/Kelliher always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Northome/Kelliher, bringing their record up to 8-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Pine River-Backus, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-8 record.

Looking ahead, Northome/Kelliher will venture away from home to take on Fertile-Beltrami at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pine River-Backus, they will welcome Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
