Baseball Game Preview: Calvert Senecas vs. Liberty-Benton Eagles

The Calvert Senecas will challenge the Liberty-Benton Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Calvert sitting on six straight wins and Liberty-Benton on three.

Calvert barely beat Old Fort the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Senecas' pitcher stepped up to hand the Stockaders a 6-0 shutout on Monday.

Not much got past Tucker Coleman, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Old Fort off the board. Coleman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Calvert saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Moyer, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was Moyer's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Liberty-Benton's hitters rose to the challenge against a Royals pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.5 runs allowed on Monday. The Eagles blew past Elmwood 10-2. Considering the Eagles have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Calvert's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty-Benton, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
