Basketball Preview: Mount Notre Dame vs. Dixie Heights Colonels
Mount Notre Dame will head out on the road to take on the Dixie Heights Colonels at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Notre Dame knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully the Colonels like a good challenge.
Last Saturday, Mount Notre Dame strolled past the Elks with points to spare, taking the game 55-41. Given Mount Notre Dame's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Elks are ranked 120th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Grace Pitzer, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Laila Harrison was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Dixie Heights unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They were beaten by Sacred Heart 74-40. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Dixie Heights in their matchups with the Valkyries: they've now lost three in a row.
Mount Notre Dame has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Dixie Heights, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-9.
Mount Notre Dame beat the Colonels 43-33 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount Notre Dame since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
