The West Geauga Wolverines will venture away from home to challenge the Jefferson Area Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. West Geauga has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
West Geauga is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against South on Tuesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (12-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
West Geauga saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lely Percassi, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Area made easy work of Conneaut on Monday and carried off a 19-3 win. Considering the Falcons have won four games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Lewis made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Lewis was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allison Hill, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Alaina Barress, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5.
Jefferson Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Jefferson Area has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for West Geauga, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. West Geauga hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Jefferson Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
West Geauga suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Jefferson Area when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
