Basketball Recap: Manzano Comes Up Short

Manzano was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the La Cueva Bears 73-26. The match marked the Monarchs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Manzano still got an impressive performance from Zaria Gomez, who went 8 for 17 to rack up 22 points. That was a full 84.6% of Manzano's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

It was another big night for Jordyn Dyer, who went 9 of 16 en route to 21 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals for La Cueva. The game was Dyer's seventh in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paz Romero, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points and seven boards.

Manzano's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for La Cueva, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.

Coming up, Manzano is taking a road trip to face off against Eldorado at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for La Cueva, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Sandia at 7:00 p.m. La Cueva is on a six-game streak of home wins, Sandia a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
