Softball Recap: Doherty Memorial Starts off Right with Win over Burncoat

Doherty Memorial had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Burncoat Patriots an 11-0 shutout. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Hannah Kursonis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Kursonis was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Audrey Lefebvre was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Isabella LLanos was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

Burncoat's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Doherty Memorial will host Grafton at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Burncoat, they will welcome St. Bernard's Central Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
