Recap: Loretto Mustangs vs. Belmont Cardinals
The Loretto Mustangs are ranked highly in their home state, and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Belmont Cardinals. Loretto came out on top against Belmont by a score of 57-46. The win was nothing new for Loretto as they're now sitting on 12 straight.
Loretto found their leader in underclassman Sophia Weathers, who scored 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. Ally Weathers was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Loretto's victory bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Belmont, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 13-1.
Loretto and Wayne County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wayne County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Loretto is ranked seventh). Belmont won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lauderdale County on December 30th. Lauderdale County is on a five-game streak of home wins, Belmont a 12-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
