Baseball Recap: Calhoun Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Calhoun proved they can win big on Monday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Carrollton Hawks a 2-0 shutout. The Warriors were shut out 1-0 the last time they took on the Hawks, so the Warriors were just returning the favor.

The result came thanks to Jack Zipprich's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Calhoun saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Nolte, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Calhoun pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Carrollton, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-6 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calhoun will take on Metro-East Lutheran at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Carrollton, they will challenge Auburn at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
