Baseball Game Preview: St. John Lutheran Saints vs. Hawthorne Hornets

The St. John Lutheran Saints will take on the Hawthorne Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Thursday, St. John Lutheran came up short against Taylor and fell 9-6. The loss was the Saints' first of the season.

Caden Cole and Bryce Disimile did some serious damage despite the final result: Cole scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Disimile scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Spellman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Hawthorne unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against Interlachen on Monday, falling 11-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Rams: they've now lost five in a row.

Connor Flinchum was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Having lost for the first time this season, St. John Lutheran fell to 2-1. As for Hawthorne, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

St. John Lutheran was able to grind out a solid win over Hawthorne when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Will St. John Lutheran repeat their success, or does Hawthorne have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
