Softball Recap: Grassfield Takes a Loss

Grassfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Hickory Hawks, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 last Wednesday.

Grassfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was EG Hatcher, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Grassfield's record is now 12-7. As for Hickory, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.

Grassfield and Hickory should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Grizzlies (ranked 44th) will meet Lakeland (ranked 229th) at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hickory will face off against Indian River at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (11 vs. 281).
