Softball Game Preview: Fredericksburg Christian Eagles vs. Potomac School Panthers

The Fredericksburg Christian Eagles will head out to square off against the Potomac School Panthers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Fredericksburg Christian is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

While Fredericksburg Christian's win against Miller School of Albemarle wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Mavericks on Tuesday.

Scarlett Whittaker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Rylie Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two triples, and three runs. That's the most triples she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Potomac School made easy work of Flint Hill on Wednesday and carried off a 12-2 win. Considering the Panthers have won eight contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Potomac School pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Fredericksburg Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.

Fredericksburg Christian might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Potomac School in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
