Basketball Game Preview: West Grand Mustangs vs. North Park Wildcats

The West Grand Mustangs will challenge the North Park Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. West Grand's defense has only allowed 23.4 points per game this season, so North Park's offense will have their work cut out for them.

West Grand is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Gilpin County just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 42-35 to the Eagles.

Meanwhile, North Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a 38-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of De Beque. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Dragons are ranked 113th).

Despite the defeat, North Park saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jenna Sessions posted 11 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Sessions a new career-high in assists (four). Micah Wolvington was another key player, putting up 11 points.

North Park's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for West Grand, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-2.

West Grand strolled past North Park when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 41-22. Will West Grand repeat their success, or does North Park have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
