Baseball Recap: Chambersburg Find Success

Chambersburg's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Mechanicsburg Wildcats 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Wildcats back in April, they had to take a 4-2 defeat.

R Mills made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one double.

In other pitching news, K McMullen looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Chambersburg: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 3-11 otherwise.

Mills wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was W Martin, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Those two hits gave Martin a new career-high.

The victory snapped Chambersburg's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-12 record. As for Mechanicsburg, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chambersburg will square off against Cedar Cliff at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mechanicsburg, they will take on Mifflin County at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
