Baseball Recap: Fletcher Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

After losing to Bartram Trail the last time they met, Fletcher decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Fletcher Senators narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bartram Trail Bears 9-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Senators.

Nick Oliviera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Oliviera was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Fletcher's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Hobie Smith was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Ben Taylor was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Fletcher pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Bartram Trail, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fletcher will head out to face off against St. Joseph Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Joseph Academy will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Fletcher surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bartram Trail, they are taking a road trip to challenge Creekside at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Bartram Trail has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
