Softball Recap: Bloomington Beats Danville for Their Third Straight Victory

Bloomington extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 12-3 in the process. They blew past the Danville Vikings 9-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Purple Raiders have posted against the Vikings since May 15, 2018.

Reilly Vetter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Bloomington let Lauren Shuey and Abi Witt run wild. Shuey went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Witt went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most RBI Shuey has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alicia Swank, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Bloomington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Danville, they now have a losing record of 9-10. They haven't had much luck with Bloomington recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

On Danville's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paisley Bean, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Looking ahead, Bloomington is taking a road trip to face off against Centennial at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Danville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
