Spencer Kornblum leads a balanced attack to beat Interlake

There's no place like home for the Mercer Island Islanders, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They secured a 67-61 W over Interlake on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Mercer Island's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Spencer Kornblum led the charge by scoring 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kornblum has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tristen Cruzen, who scored 14 points.

When it comes to explaining why Interlake lost, one person who can't be blamed is Shelton Henton. Despite the final result, he scored 29 points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 47.5% of Interlake's points, marking the 15th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Clark Tonnon was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.

Mercer Island's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Interlake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-9.

Mercer Island will head out on the road to take on Juanita at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Mercer Island is facing Juanita at the right time seeing as Juanita is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Interlake, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Lake Washington at 7:15 p.m. Interlake is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.3 points per game this season.
