Basketball Recap: Drew Brown's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Riverside over Villa Angela-St. Joseph

Riverside lost against Villa Angela-St. Joseph back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Riverside Beavers came up short against the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings, falling 76-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Beavers have suffered since December 17, 2024.

Riverside's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Brown, who posted eight points and ten boards. Colin Durkin was another key player, putting up ten points.

Antonio Brown was his usual excellent self, going 10-for-13 to rack up 22 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists for Villa Angela-St. Joseph. Brown has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Martin, who went 7-for-13 en route to 20 points and three steals.

Riverside's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Riverside will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Solon at 7:00 p.m. on February 25th. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, they will venture away from home to challenge Streetsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Streetsboro will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Villa Angela-St. Joseph surely won't give up without a fight.
