Basketball Recap: KIPP College Prep Panthers vs. Parkside Eagles
On Monday, the KIPP College Prep Panthers faced the Parkside Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. KIPP College Prep took a 68-53 bruising from the Eagles. Even though they lost, KIPP College Prep's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.1 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joey Mitchell, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Kaden Butler, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Parkside got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Semaj Marshall out in front who scored 15 points. Marshall is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Kasson James was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
KIPP College Prep dropped their record down to 8-11 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Parkside, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.
KIPP College Prep will head out on the road to square off against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thurgood Marshall Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Parkside, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Titans at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Friendship Tech Prep Academy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
