Basketball Game Preview: Muscle Shoals Trojans vs. Athens Golden Eagles

The Muscle Shoals Trojans will square off against the Athens Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Athens took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Muscle Shoals, who comes in off a win.

Last Tuesday, Muscle Shoals beat Decatur 58-46. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Red Raiders are ranked 132nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Athens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 47-33 bruising from East Limestone.

Muscle Shoals is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points per game. As for Athens, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13.

Everything came up roses for Muscle Shoals against Athens in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as the team secured a 64-29 win. Will Muscle Shoals repeat their success, or does Athens have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
