Baseball Recap: McCann Tech Comes Up Short

McCann Tech dropped their record down to 8-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Drury Blue Devils, falling 9-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Hornets have suffered since April 26, 2024.

McCann Tech saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Barrett, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Drury, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Drury's side, Connor Hinkell made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Hinkell has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McCann Tech will challenge Lee at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Drury, they will face off against Pioneer Valley Regional at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight.
