Softball Game Preview: New Plymouth Pilgrims vs. Vision

New Plymouth has gone a perfect 5-0 against Vision recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Pilgrims will welcome Vision at 5:00 p.m. New Plymouth is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.

New Plymouth barely beat Fruitland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pilgrims' pitchers stepped up to hand the Grizzlies an 18-0 shutout on Saturday. The Pilgrims haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Makiah Weideman made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrianna Hartzell, who fired off three home runs and six RBI while going 4-for-4. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. LeeAnn Hartzell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

New Plymouth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fruitland only posted an OBP of .150.

Meanwhile, Vision was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Parma, falling 22-0. The match marked the first time this year in which Vision was not able to get on the board.

Vision's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for New Plymouth, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.

New Plymouth took their win against Vision in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 17-1 score. Do the Pilgrims have another victory up their sleeve, or will Vision turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
