League recap: Katy tops Strake Jesuit to extend winning streak

Katy extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region III District 19 this week by beating Strake Jesuit, 62-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.

The Crusaders made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,396 from 4,518. The improvement came about via a 62-7 victory over Strake Jesuit last week.

Katy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Kiley Huddleston threw for 119 and three touchdowns and Rodney Anderson had 69 yards receiving. On the ground Adam Taylor chipped in 114 yards. Andrew Englett helped Katy's passing attack out by catching two balls for 23 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Huddleston and Taylor Gary Joseph's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Huddleston leads the league in passing with 976 yards, while Taylor has rushed for 997 yards this season. Mayde Creek's Jesus Cortez leads the league in receiving yards with 415 on 24 catches.

The Tigers' Taylor needs only three yards against Cinco Ranch next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Katy takes on the Cougars. The Tigers are currently in first, while Cinco Ranch is in fourth.

There should be lots of points scored when Katy and Don Clayton's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Tigers comes in having scored 422 this season, while the Cougars have scored 216. Katy scored 62 points last week as it beat James Clancy's team.
