Basketball Recap: Jett Tran's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Clayton Valley Charter over Ygnacio Valley

If Clayton Valley Charter was feeling good fresh off their 58-33 takedown of Alhambra last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles fell to the Ygnacio Valley Wolves 53-47. The Ugly Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Clayton Valley Charter's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jett Tran, who posted 14 points along with five boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Tran a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Zion Grissom, who went 5 for 10 en route to 14 points.

Ygnacio Valley was led to victory by Jalan Cody and Antonio Kellogg Jr. Cody scored 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals, while Kellogg Jr earned 16 points and three blocks. Kellogg Jr is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Machai Alston was another key player, putting up five points.

Clayton Valley Charter's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Ygnacio Valley, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 10-8.

Clayton Valley Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-35 defeat against San Ramon Valley on the 18th. As for Ygnacio Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 72-56 victory against Berkeley on the 18th.
