Basketball Recap: West Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact West can now relate to. They were beaten by the Washburn Rural Blues 78-50 on Tuesday. The Pioneers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-22.

Washburn Rural's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Simon Rowley, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 23 points. Those 23 points gave Rowley a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amare Jones, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 13 points in addition to six boards and five assists.

This is the second loss in a row for West and nudges their season record down to 4-17. As for Washburn Rural, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Washburn Rural, they will take on Junction City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Washburn Rural's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests.
