Basketball Game Preview: Springfield Spartans vs. Streetsboro Rockets

Springfield hasn't had much luck against Streetsboro recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Springfield Spartans will face off against the Streetsboro Rockets at 7:00 p.m.

Springfield is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 18th straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Cloverleaf and fell 79-30.

Meanwhile, Streetsboro had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They took down the Comets 59-43. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Comets are ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Springfield better keep an eye on Jack Batten. He was instrumental in Streetsboro's win, going 7 of 14 on his way to 22 points along with five assists and three steals. Batten continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Charles Ivory, who posted 12 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Streetsboro's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.

Springfield took a serious blow against Streetsboro in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 73-15. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Springfield was down 46-11.
