League recap: Southaven propelled into state Top 25 after victory

Southaven was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping DeSoto Central. The Chargers came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.

South Panola extended the longest winning streak in 6A Region 1 this week by beating Grenada, 15-8. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Samuel Craft and Samuel Craft gave Olive Branch a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Craft threw for 106 yards and one touchdown, while Craft ran for 138 yards. Byrekus "Jap" Payne also contributed to the rushing game with 48 yards on the ground.

Jimmy Cockrell was the best wideout in the league this week as Columbus lost to the Conquistadors. Cockrell racked up four receptions for 75 yards. DeMarcus Vance helped Columbus' passing attack out by catching four balls for 43 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Jaguars take on South Panola. As it stands, DeSoto Central is in fourth, while Lance Pogue's team is in second.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Chargers take on the Falcons. Grenada has allowed 176 points this season, while Columbus has given up 99. The Chargers allowed 15 points last week as they fell to the Tigers.

Tupelo took down Horn Lake 31-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
