Football Recap: Roosevelt Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Roosevelt played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Chaparral Pumas and fell 61-29. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Pumas: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Roosevelt still got an impressive performance from Matthew Ochoa, who threw for 234 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 39 yards. 88 of Ochoa's passing yards were hauled in by Jorge Islas.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Darion Rubin, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Chaparral's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dane Weber, who threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 72 yards and one score. Weber is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trevor Schneider, who gained 112 total yards.

Roosevelt's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Chaparral, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Roosevelt will square off against Murrieta Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' defense better be ready for this one: the Nighthawks have averaged an impressive 40.6 points per game this season. As for Chaparral, they will take on Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Pumas surely won't give up without a fight.
