Football Recap: Gannon Sever Key Part of Team Effort in Bears Win

Buchanan never let their opponents score on Friday. They took down the Clovis East Timberwolves 14-0. Surprisingly, this marked the Bears' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Buchanan's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gannon Sever, who rushed for 104 yards, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. Sever's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 104 rushing yards.

Another reason for the win was Buchanan's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Shelton Shanklin was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He has become a key player for Buchanan: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one sack, but 2-3 otherwise. The Bears received some extra help from Ethan Brock, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Despite the loss, Clovis East had strong showings from Lindsey Graves, who gained 155 total yards, and Jamie Spurgeon, who rushed for 72 yards.

Buchanan's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Clovis East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Buchanan didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-38 defeat against Central East on the 30th. As for Clovis East, they have also already played their next game, a 27-20 loss against Clovis North on the 31st.
