Baseball Game Preview: Bergen Catholic Crusaders vs. St. Joseph Regional Green Knights

For the second straight game, Bergen Catholic will face off against St. Joseph Regional. The Crusaders will be playing at home against the Green Knights at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bergen Catholic 3.3, St. Joseph Regional 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Bergen Catholic's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when St. Joseph Regional hitters got past them. The Crusaders came up short against the Green Knights on Monday, falling 14-4. The Crusaders just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

For St. Joseph Regional's part, Brendan Lewis looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Lewis has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Brady Shust was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Myles Gomez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

St. Joseph Regional is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Bergen Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 15-6.
