Baseball Recap: Independence Drops Highest Score of Season Against Highland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). They put the hurt on the Highland Scots with a sharp 21-6 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Mateo Romo looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aldo Salcedo was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Independence is undefeated when Salcedo posts two or more runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Guzman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Independence is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Highland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season.

Independence will have a chance to go back-to-back against Highland: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
