Softball Recap: The First Academy Wins Going Away Against Lyman

The First Academy barely beat Lyman the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Royals put the hurt on the Greyhounds with a sharp 12-2 win on Friday. Considering the Royals have won five games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Isabella Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Brown was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Sulexy Falcon and Nola-Blair Simmons did most of the damage at the plate: Falcon scored three runs while going 3-for-5, while Simmons scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Those three runs gave Simmons a new career-high. Peyton Watts was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

The First Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.6.

The victory got The First Academy back to even at 8-8. As for Lyman, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

The First Academy will take on Mount Dora Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Royals surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lyman, they will square off against Lake Mary at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
