Softball Recap: Eight Straight Home Wins for El Capitan

El Capitan entered their tilt with St. Michael on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Cardinals. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Vasey Yellowhorse spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Emmie Tait was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since March 7th. Jonessa Keate was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

El Capitan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are undefeated (6-0) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

El Capitan pushed their record up to 7-8-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for St. Michael, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Coming up, El Capitan will challenge Ash Fork/Seligman at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Capitan's pitchers better be ready for this one: Ash Fork/Seligman has averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for St. Michael, a feisty cat fight will be fought as St. Michael Cardinals duke it out with Mayer Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
