Recap: Monroe Academy Volunteers vs. Bessemer Academy Rebels
This season hasn't been kind to the Monroe Academy Volunteers, who are still winless after their seventh matchup. They suffered a rough 59-34 defeat at the hands of Bessemer Academy on Friday. Monroe Academy has struggled against Bessemer Academy recently, as their contest on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Johnathan Winston was his usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals for Bessemer Academy. Winston hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrison Manley, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Monroe Academy dropped their record down to 0-7 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Bessemer Academy, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-1.
Monroe Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Bessemer Academy will head out on the road to challenge Morgan Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Morgan Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 318th, while Bessemer Academy is ranked 70th).
