Baseball Recap: Oil City Has No Trouble Against Franklin

Oil City barely beat Franklin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Oilers put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 7-1 victory on Wednesday. The Oilers haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Will McMahon made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Oil City's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). McMahon was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

McMahon wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Casey Rybak, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Rybak has launched this season.

Oil City's victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Franklin, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-10.

Looking ahead, Oil City will square off against Rocky Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Franklin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
