Baseball Recap: Willow Spring Gets the Win

Willow Spring was handed a six-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Green Hope Falcons 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Storm have posted since March 20th.

Willow Spring got a great performance from Alex Smith as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Smith is becoming a predictor of the Storm's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Corey Kinard II, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braedon Marsh, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Willow Spring's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11. As for Green Hope, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Willow Spring has already played their next matchup, an 8-3 loss against Apex Friendship on the 13th. As for Green Hope, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 6-1 defeat against Fuquay-Varina on the 13th.
