Softball Recap: Archie Comes Up Short

Archie had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-4 to make it six. They came up short against the Stockton Tigers, falling 20-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Whirlwinds' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Stockton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Stockton's part, Mekenzie Evens was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Evens was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Stockton got a massive performance out of Gracie Abercrombie, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave Abercrombie a new career-high. Libbey Colvin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Archie will face off against Lakeland at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Stockton, they will head out to face off against Skyline at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
