Baseball Game Preview: Memphis Yellowjackets vs. Peck Pirates

The Memphis Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to challenge the Peck Pirates at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Memphis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Memphis came up short against Harbor Beach and fell 5-1. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Peck had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Eagles.

Grady Welch and Dorian Abrego made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Welch pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Abrego struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Peck is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-5 otherwise. At the plate, Welch went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Abrego went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Peck's record is now 4-6. As for Memphis, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.

Memphis skirted past Peck 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
