Recap: Weldon Chargers vs. KIPP P Pride
The Weldon Chargers took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They claimed a resounding 70-23 victory over KIPP P at home. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Weldon also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Weldon can attribute much of their success to Shaelyn Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 steals. Another player making a difference was Briana Moody, who scored 18 points.
Despite the defeat, KIPP P saw an underclassman step up: Kaiyah Cherry scored 7 points along with 22 rebounds.
Weldon's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for KIPP P, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Weldon will head out on the road to face off against North Edgecombe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for KIPP P, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Warren County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
