Baseball Recap: West Scranton Comes Up Short

West Scranton extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-11 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the Delaware Valley Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 last Wednesday.

As for Delaware Valley, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6. That looming 10-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Delaware Valley's part, Frank Pedone made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Pedone also tossed a walk, which is notable because Delaware Valley is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-5 otherwise. Pedone was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Teegan Handy, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Trevor Phillips was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Scranton will face off against North Pocono at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Invaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Delaware Valley, they will square off against Wallenpaupack Area at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
