Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Cj Barker and Ehis Idoni Lead Roosevelt to Victory + How To Watch

Roosevelt and Sunnyside pushed the score to 44-22 the last time they played Sunnyside, but on Thursday defenses reigned supreme. The Rough Riders' defense stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 19-0 shutout. Those 19 points were actually the fewest the Rough Riders have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Leading Roosevelt to victory were Ehis Idoni and Cj Barker. Idoni rushed for 158 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, while Barker rushed for 138 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries. Idoni's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his tenth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards dating back to last season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Roosevelt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Roosevelt's defense and their 5.5 sacks. Sunnyside's QB won't forget Elijah Ferry anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

Sunnyside's loss came despite strong showings from Johnathan Diaz and Bob Davis. Diaz rushed for 124 yards on only 15 carries, while Davis rushed for 74 yards.

Roosevelt pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.8 points over those games. As for Sunnyside, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Roosevelt has already played their next game, a 42-0 defeat against McLane on the 9th. As for Sunnyside, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 41-28 victory against Hoover on the 10th.
