Baseball Recap: Dougherty Valley Wildcats vs. Monte Vista Mustangs
Dougherty Valley extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-18 in the process. They came up short against the Monte Vista Mustangs, falling 9-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 on Wednesday.
Dougherty Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brendan Weng, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Ajay Sahi also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Monte Vista, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-16. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Monte Vista's side, Gavin McMillan looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. McMillan has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Anthony Capra was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Storz, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Coming up, Dougherty Valley will face off against De La Salle at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Monte Vista, they will take on College Park at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
